Every ounce packed while hiking in recent months must be carefully thought out so without having to throw a three pound tent into our backpack when we could have opted for the ten ounce MSR Thru-Hiker Mesh House 1 instead is a no-brainer. Its ultra-lightweight design provides protection from insects while hiking through the High Sierras on the PCT or through the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Appalachian Trail. Universal design allows us to fit it under the MSR Hiker 70 or 100 Wing (sold separately) when we need protection from insects and rain and in the non-freestanding design, we eschew traditional poles for our own trekking poles to further reduce weight. Thru-Hiker kit includes six MSR needle stakes so we can be sure that the shelter is reliably protected before heading there for the night.
